All swimmers (who are able) will swim in every meet. Young swimmers must be comfortable swimming across the pool unassisted before they can swim in a meet (they may, however, take “pit stops” by hanging on the lane line). According to the league rules, each swimmer in a meet should swim at least twice, if possible, and no more than 4 individual events and 2 relays.
There is a lot of planning that must go into preparation of the meet sheets and assignment of swimmers to events. Coaches consider the league rules, and swimmer preferences, and abilities. The goal of the coaches is to put the children in the strokes they like, and to match the strokes to their ability.
Relays: Relays are usually at the end of the meet. We attempt to place every swimmer in at least one relay; though sometimes, due to uneven numbers, not all swimmers are able to participate. Relay teams will be different at every meet depending on swimmers’ progress and vacation schedules. Please do not take your child home before checking to see if they are swimming a relay.
