2 Upcoming Events - Herndon Olympics and the Olympic Clinic
June 22nd
There are 2 upcoming events that I wanted to draw your attention to. First, Herndon Olympics is just around the corner on Tuesday, July 10th. For those of you who are new or have never participated, Herndon Olympics is a single day meet where 9 Herndon swim teams compete against each other. Each team enters 1-2 swimmers in each individual event and 1 relay team per relay. Swimmers may swim in 2 individual events and 2 relay events. Medals will be awarded to all swimmers for individual and relay events. Please note that this meet is during the day and not in the evening.
Not all of our Four Seasons swimmers will be participating in the Herndon Olympics. Selections are made based upon times and availability. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT for everyone to RSVP to the Herndon Olympics link on the website to indicate whether you are available or interested in participating – YES OR NO. RSVP needs to be done by June 27th to be considered. Coaches take a lot of factors into consideration in selecting swimmers to participate so even if you think that your swimmer has no shot at participating based upon his or her times, please RSVP and indicate if you are interested in being considered or not. We will most likely need at least one parent to volunteer from each participating swimmer’s family in order to meet our team volunteer requirements. If you know that your family will not be able to volunteer for a half day session, please note that in the RSVP.
The second item is the Herndon Olympic Clinic will be held on Monday, July 9th in the afternoon. Olympians Ian Crocker and Lacey Nymeyer-Johns will be leading the clinic. The cost of the clinic is $50 and is held at the Kingston Chase pool from 2:00 -6:00 pm. The clinic ends with a spaghetti dinner for all participants. Everyone who is able to swim across the pool is invited to sign-up for the clinic. Parents are free to stay and watch the clinic. From personal experience, this clinic is excellent and worth the time and money. The mentoring from the Olympians not only applies to swimming but to life in general, and they send a very motivating and positive message to all swimmers of any skill set which applies to life outside the pool.
HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE OLYMPIC CLINIC – there is a registration form that you need to complete and send in. These forms are in the front of the swim team box today. Registration is first come first serve. Only the first 60 swimmers from all teams will be accepted.
