A Big Thank You
It’s hard to believe, the season is coming to an end and we have to think about next season already. However, first we need to recognize the effort of all the families that helped make this season successful by committing their time to getting swimmers to practices and meets, as well as organizing and running activities and meets offered during the season. Please give a special thank you to all the board members that did much work behind the scenes. I especially want to thank Tom and Deana Alvy for serving on the board for the last 6 years!! I currently know that we need to fill their board positions for the 2013 season, as well as the other positions below with a ‘*’ next to them.

Uncertain, but Willing
Two years ago, right around this time, Jeremy and I heard that the President of the Board was planning to step down. Of course, I thought, what a shame, but that’s not a position I could ever take on, or one I’d ever consider taking on. Jeremy, the swimmer, started saying that we could do it together. I thought he was crazy. A few days later, we committed to sharing the role of Board President.
I agreed to do it for two reasons:
I agreed to do it for two reasons:- My kids were getting a lot of benefit from our participation on the team, as were we, the parents.
- There was a need to fill the position.
I didn’t do it because I was really excited about the prospect of running a team of swimmers, when I’ve never been a swimmer myself. But if we can do it, many of you can as well. Please review the vacant positions already mentioned (described below) and seriously consider how you can help out. It’s important to share the load and responsibility. Sharing positions is strongly encouraged to allow for coverage during vacations, and there’s always safety in numbers. I’ll be around next season but I cannot continue as President, so I’m happy to assist the next President by taking on some key tasks or filling a different board position.
Commit Early
To assist next year’s board, I’m asking families to sign up for volunteer positions before the end of the season. The seasons is so short and fast paced we must know who will do what the first week of a new season. 85% of the families are likely to return next season, so committing now shouldn’t take much thought. Please see the links section of the website to sign up.

Board Members and Key Positions
President: Oversee the operation of the team. Plan and conduct meetings of the team board, parents, or coaches as necessary. Recruit and supervise coaching staff. Appoint committee chairs. Supervise and provide guidance to board member and committee chairs. Ensure that membership is kept informed of team information and activities. Act as team mediator for any problems or conflicts that may arise. Delegate responsibilities to board members and team volunteers as needed. Act as team liaison to Four Seasons Recreation Director. Coordinate updating of team website. Work with volunteer coordinator to draft student volunteers seeking community service house for meet roles and other volunteer positions.
Vice-President: Assist the President. Coordinate team swimsuit selection and ordering. Organize team picture. Work with Recognition Coordinator to order team trophies. Coordinate Champs and all Stars. Attend board meetings. Other duties as needed.
