    First Meet/Junior Coaching

    Hello Four Season’s Families,

This email contains information about this week’s Swim Meet and Junior Coaches.

Our first meet against Kingstream is coming up this Saturday, June 13. The progress our swimmers have made during practice this week has been impressive, and I look forward to seeing them in competition! Please have RSVPs in by Thursday Evening, so we have time to send them off to Kingstream on Friday. Also, parent volunteers would be appreciated to help the meet run smoothly. Kingstream’s address is 1430 Kingsvale Circle, Herndon.

Warm ups start at 7:30 AM. Please plan on arriving 10-15 minutes early so swimmers can be on deck by 7:30. Below is a list of items recommended for swim meets.

    • Swimsuit
    • Goggles
    • Swim cap (optional but recommended, especially for long hair)
    • Multiple Towels
    • Water bottle
    • Snacks
    • Sunscreen
    • Hat/Sunglasses (for parents)

    • Plenty of Team Spirit!!!

This Meet’s theme is BLUE OUT!!! Show your team spirit by wearing as much blue as possible!

Every swimmer age 13 and up is eligible to become a volunteer Junior Coach for our swim team. The benefits of junior coaching include.

    • Volunteer hours, looks good for college, scholarships, and resumes
    • Learn and refine Leadership, Management, Responsibility, Communication, and Team work skills
    • Further improve own swimming skills
    • Giving back to your community
    • Recognition at end of year banquet

The role of junior coaches is to help younger kids learn swimming technique, stay engaged during practice, and contribute to a positive team environment. Some examples are

    • Be able to show up to most meets and practices
    • Have a positive attitude towards coaching and interacting with younger teammates
    • Help out at morning practice by leading lanes, answering questions, setting up, and critiquing stokes and giving feedback
    • Help out at swim meets by answering questions, cheering, giving feedback on races, and help ensure every swimmer knows what and when they’re swimming
    • Help with paper plates

For the Junior coaches who want their hours to count towards high school/college, please keep a log of your own hours and I or an assistant coach will sign you off at the end of the year. I would like to have junior coaches identified by next Wednesday. After each practice this week and through next Wednesday, I will be available to talk more in depth about junior coaching.

I’m excited to have additional leaders to encourage growth, confidence, and a positive team culture. If you have questions about junior coaching, let me know at practice or with email.
